MERC is pleased to announce the 11th round of research awards and invites proposals from qualified
researchers. Deadline for receiving proposals in their final format is 15 November 2011. While open to all
research ideas and topics, the program encourages proposals that apply rigorous social science methodologies
and theories particularly in the following areas:

About Merc

Recognizing the importance of empowering social scientists and nurturing new generations of well-trained researchers in the Middle East region, the Ford Foundation established the Middle East Research Competition (MERC) in 1986 as a research competition in international relations and comparative politics to serve scholars residing in the Arab countries and Turkey. During the first ten years of its life, MERC was situated in Cairo and administered directly by Ford Foundation’s Cairo office. Over this period, it helped shap.

MERC Journal

MERC Social Science Reviews entitled Awrak Al Awsat was recently published. It includes a number of scientific papers that were presented in the seminar on “Women and Public Participation in The Arab World”. It also includes the proceedings of a roundtable and an interview with Gouda Abdel-Khalek.
